On a cloudy, dark afternoon in 1989, Alfred F. Jones, otherwise known as America, was bored. Bored out of his mind. England was too busy dealing with his economy problems, Japan was ignoring him for some reason, and even though he had a sneaking suspicion that he had a brother somewhere who probably wanted to play, he had no recollection of what his name was. Started with a C, maybe. But right now, all Alfred was doing was slamming his head on his desk, unable to figure out what to do.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" He shouted in frustration, startling anyone within a mile of his house. He blinked a few times, then looked up. I might as well just play on my computer, he thought, I can't think of anything else. He lethargically reached over to the power button on his PC and watched the monitor power up. Veeerrry slooowly. "Hurry up!" Alfred grumbled, glaring at the screen. Finally, the log-in screen appeared. "Account name, Alfred F. Jones...password, 'englandisateasuckingidiot'..." Once his account's desktop showed, he stared at it for a bit. He had no games to play. He leaned over into his desk's drawer, and pulled out a game he had bought a few months ago, but never got around to using.

"Tetris?" Alfred asked himself, clicking on it with curiosity filling his head. He slipped the disc in, and clicking the "play" button, he started the game. Sepia-toned blocks were falling from the top of the screen and falling to the bottom.  So it was a pattern game. Suddenly, some music started blasting out of his computer's speakers...

"Wow, this is awesome! And the music is cool too!" Alfred played level after level, feeling unstoppable. After what seemed to be only a few minutes, Alfred yawned and took a peek at the clock.
"HOLY CRAP!" He screeched, waking up anyone within a mile of his house. "Th-three AM!? How in the heck did it get to be this late!?" He quickly powered down the PC, rushing off to get changed and brush his teeth. But once he got to the bathroom, he realized he was was also feeling a little hungry, because he hadn't eaten since...since he started playing. He ran to the kitchen, stuffed his face with a leftover cheeseburger in his fridge, then ran back to the bathroom. After he was in his PJs, he started brushing his teeth. But all he could hear in his head was the music from the game, and he hummed as he brushed. Once finished, he flopped onto his bed, folded his glasses and put them next to his clock, expecting to fall asleep instantly. Instead, the song was still playing over and over in his mind, seemingly growing louder and louder each cycle. He lay awake, staring at the ceiling, imagining tiles falling. His eyes wide open, he turned his head to stare at the clock. Only two minutes had passed. He moaned and rubbed his eyes. "I need to get to the next level..." He mumbled, squeezed his eyes shut, and fell asleep.

Alfred woke with a start, looking around. It was 9 AM. "Man, I've overslept," He mumbled, rubbing his eyes. He usually woke up much earlier, but then again, he didn't usually stay up so late. He shuffled over to the kitchen, where he started for the cabinet for some cereal, when a piece of the roof fell down in front of him. "GWAH!" He shrieked, jumping back and falling. He looked up nervously. Suddenly blocks were falling, falling down everywhere, crashing through the roof and destroying his house. The music was starting and was exploding all around. Alfred scrambled to his feet, fleeing the carnage. But when he escaped his house, more blocks were falling, bigger then ever, falling, falling, suddenly everywhere, and a huge block fell on top of Alfred, crushing him; he couldn't breathe, the music was beating out in his ears,  it was going dark--

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Alfred screamed, bolting upright. Breathing heavily, he grabbed his alarm clock and looked at the time. It was 8:30. It had all been a dream. Panting, he tried catching his breath, eventually regaining his ability to breathe evenly. Falling back again, he sighed. "Man...I gotta stop staying up all night." He sat up, hopped out of bed and went to make himself breakfast, eying the ceiling suspiciously. After he had finished eating and there was no sign of a block apocalypse, he wandered back to the PC and started it up to play some more Tetris. The music blowing in his ears, he smiled, thinking of all the ways he could play it, thinking of how many levels he could beat, not knowing it would be all he did for several weeks, unable to stop, slowly realizing the message that was coming through the speakers, repeating, over, and over, and over, and over, and over...

Meanwhile, a tall man with a large nose and a tan scarf was patting Alexey Pajitnov on the back. The tall man smiled. "Ahh, yes. The distribution of you game was a brilliant plan, Mr. Pajitnov. And an even better plan to set in some USSR laws hidden in the music code!" The man giggled like a small child.  "And now that it is all over the world, perhaps now..." Russia smiled, a creepy aura suddenly surrounding him, "...now it will be easier to swallow up everyone in my path..."

Just a little something I wrote in an hour or two, so it's not very good. Not to mention that I haven't written fanfiction in a while. :iconorzplz: Also, thank you Camo for telling me that the 1989 Tetris was sepia-colored, instead of colorful. 8D

Yeaaaah, I love the Tetris theme. It's often in my head even though I'm not a big fan of the game. But I hear it can be incredibly addictive to some people. 8D
FUN FACT: The Tetris music([link]) is actually a Russian folk song called Korobelniki. But I don't think it has any subliminal messages hidden in the midi. xD
Also, becuase it was suggested, here's a free, flash version of Tetris: [link]
I was listening to this while writing on repeat: [link]
I don't own Alfred or Russia (Ivan)~
